MAPS FOR LISTENING is an urban intervention project in the La Perla neighborhood in Mar del Plata, Argentina. It uses the song of the birds as the starting point in order to reveal the relationships between sound, place and our sense of belonging. The “soundmarks ” - trees and urban structures – which are activated every spring by birdsong were identified and recorded with the aim of designing a map of sound coordinates which will be freely distributed among the local residents. The map will allow the identification of diverse birds and trees species and will encourage to experience the neighborhood and to listen to its sounds in new ways. Additionally, the project will include sign posts at each location bearing the notice: “Listen. Here, birds sing". The recordings published here are like a sound heritage archive of the neighborhood.
